Topic: sitting position

Hello Gary,
I do a lot of orchestra playing and I sit on a stool to play. Could you give some tips to those of us who sit as to how to position the bass while sitting, and still maintain your method of holding the instrument? Also, a lot of people (myself included) have been anxiously awaiting your fourth book.....any chance?
Thanks so much.

I too sit. Caveat: I cannot say anything here as an expert but the posture I describe here results in few knots in my back and little tension in my arms.
I use a 28" stool with 1 inch high density foam padding and leatherette cover. I use a guitar foot stool for my left foot because I have a muniscus tear in that knee. This lets me walk after a long rehearsal. I keep the bass as close to directly in front as I can. Like standing, the nut should be at the left ear. Hope this helps.
A friend of mine uses a piano bench (24") for his solo performances. I have not yet had the courage to do that in my solo work in the hospital programs I do.
